Solar Bears Add Defenseman Jake Parenteau

Orlando, FL – The Orlando Solar Bears, proud affiliate of the NHL’s Toronto Maple Leafs and AHL’s Toronto Marlies, announced today that D Jake Parenteau has been returned from the Iowa Wild (AHL). He agreed to a standard ECHL contract with the Solar Bears on August 27. In a separate transaction, the team has traded F Alex Gallant to the Utah Grizzlies for future considerations.

Parenteau (5-10, 196 lbs.) began this season playing four games for the Iowa Wild (AHL), tallying one assist. Before joining the professional ranks, Parenteau played four seasons (2010-14) at the University of Minnesota. In 113 NCAA games, he posted 22 points on four goals and 18 assists. A native of Shafer, MN, Parenteau was named to the WCHA All-Academic Team in 2012-13. Parenteau played two seasons (2008-10) for the Alaska Avalanche (NAHL), netting 26 goals and 42 assists to go along with 143 PIM in 102 games. He led all NAHL defensemen in goals during both of his seasons with Alaska, and in 2009-10 he led all defensemen with 47 points and was named to the NAHL First All-Star Team.

Gallant appeared in one game for the Solar Bears, picking up seven PIM in a 5-2 victory over the Greenville Road Warriors on Opening Night, Saturday, October 18.
