Baltimore Police Commissioner Anthony Batts has been fired, Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake announced Wednesday.
Rawlings-Blake announced the firing in a news release, said Deputy Police Commissioner Kevin Davis will assume the role in an interim capacity.
Batts was roundly blasted for the city’s response to rioting after April death of Freddie Gray, a 25-year-old black man who died while in police custody.
The city has totaled 155 homicides this year — including three Tuesday night — a 48 percent increase over the same period last year, the Associated Press reported.
