“Be careful what you ask for.” Words of wisdom handed down for generations, which, despite their proven merit, are routinely ignored. People are talking– whispered rumors, an indistinct buzz running through the streets. In the African American community, these people are known as “the street committee”– a nameless, but usually authoritative source of information even when based purely in speculation and innuendo. According to the street committee, President Trump and weekend Fox News host turned head of the Defense (now War) Department, should both be concerned. Apart from their titled positions, neither have earned the respect of military men who have served this country honorably, putting their lives on the line for flag and country..

Trump’s draft-dodging and misuse of his power as Commander-in-Chief, and Hegseth’s drinking, lack of qualifications, and sharing of classified war plans over Signal chat diminish both of them in the eyes of real soldiers who have spent decades climbing the ranks and showing their dedication to the oaths they took “to defend the Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic.” For every clear-headed and free-thinking American, the greatest threat to the nation today is the Cult of MAGA and its inept and insane leadership.
Why would Hegseth (or Trump, for that matter) think it unthinkable that telling the men who have served 30-40 years defending the Constitution to ignore their oaths or resign, would not take that prodding to its next logical conclusion and seize control of the government? It is clear that Trump has attempted to purge the ranks of generals to create a MAGA Military, but what if even among the MAGA military men there is enough integrity and “esprit de corps” to resist this ungodly civilian disdain for the flag and the republic for which it stands? What if they’ve already been talking about taking the extreme step of retiring the old man, his sycophants and his handlers? It has never been done before, to be sure, but then, neither has the Trump Assault on America.
It would probably never happen, anyway. It’s just the street committee talking, after all.
