NEW ORLEANS — Hurricane Harvey is being called a “grave risk to the folks in Texas” by the head of the National Weather Service as the hurricane continues to develop.
Harvey reached hurricane status and currently has 105 mph winds. It is moving northwest at 10 mph. Harvey is currently a Category 2 hurricane.
Harvey is expected to become a Category 3 hurricane before it makes landfall over southeastern Texas, the National Hurricane Center said in an update. Officials said the hurricane’s track might keep it around longer than previously thought, possibly into early next week. The hurricane is forecast to stall near the coast or just inland through the weekend.
