Each hour of regular exercise can add about two hours to your life expectancy
WHAT: The American Heart Association is inviting the community to celebrate National Walking Day – April 1 – by taking 30 minutes to walk with staff, volunteers and neighbors around Lake Eola.
Whether it’s walking, running, biking, playing sports or joining a group class, the goal on this day is for Orlando residents to get more active. The American Heart Association recommends at least 150 minutes of physical activity weekly for adults, and 60 minutes a day for kids. So, grab your sneakers, lace up and get moving toward a healthier heart.
The event is free and open to the public.
If you can’t make it to the walk, encourage your company to get involved by inviting employees to wear their sneakers to work and take your own group walk on April 1. For more information and to sign up your company to receive your free National Walking Day toolkit visit www.heart.org/nationalwalkingday.
WHEN: Wednesday, April 1 at 12 p.m.
WHERE: The Amphitheater at Lake Eola – 101 N. Rosalind Ave., Orlando, FL 32801
WHO: The American Heart Association Greater Orlando staff, volunteers and community.
WHY: Americans are spending more time than ever sitting in front of screens – at work and at home –which means less time being active. Physical inactivity has a detrimental effect on your health. Studies have shown that inactive people can double their risk of heart disease. National Walking Day is a nationwide call-to-action for Americans to adopt a healthy lifestyle.
All cardiovascular diseases combined claim more lives each year than the next three leading causes of death combine, including cancer. Just in Florida alone, heart disease and stroke claim around 50,000 lives a year.
A word of advice: Workout supplements can enhance your performance before you exercise. Not everyone needs them, but you don’t have to need supplements to take them. For the ultimate guide to supplements, click here.
