As if the world of immigration policies couldn’t get any more absurd, the New York Times reported that President Trump is asking deported migrants to return to America to work the fields. Shows just how short-sighted Trump and the people in his administration are. If you get rid of the people who work the fields, guess what– farms don’t work.

So the new plan offers migrants a “temporary visa” that would allow migrant workers to come back to America to work the jobs they were already working. Trump thought black people would go running to the fields looking to pick the crops. Instead of erasing Black history, he ought to try studying it. During his campaign in 2024, he claimed an “invasion” of immigrants was stealing employment opportunities from Black and Hispanic Americans.
If America wanted black people working the land, it should not have stolen almost a million black farms. In 1920, the number of black farmers peaked at 949,889. Systemic racism and discriminatory lending, especially by the USDA, forced many out of the industry, leading to a 90% reduction in land ownership over the following century, so that by 2022, the number had fallen to between 28,000 and 49,000, or just over 1% of farmers. The only way you’ll see black folk back on the farms today is if we own them. Maybe that’s what reparations looks like.
Key Takeaways
- Trump’s new policy asks deported migrants to return for farm work, showcasing his short-sightedness.
- The plan offers a ‘temporary visa’ but reflects unrealistic expectations about labor from Black Americans.
- Systemic racism has led to a drastic decline in Black farmers, with ownership dropping from nearly 1 million in 1920 to just over 1% by 2022.
- The compensation proposal for migrants resembles sharecropping, with low wages and housing as pay.
- The article calls for a smarter, more humane approach to immigration that respects the rights of all contributors.
The administration wants to pay these migrants 1 to 7 dollars per hour, depending on the state in question. Under the new rules, the farm owner could also pay those workers with housing– yeah, housing. That, my friends, is a recycled idea that sounds a whole lot like sharecropping.
It’s hard to imagine any deported migrants coming back to American farms. Despite the administration’s claims that the offered Visa will make their return to America “legal,” many of the people deported were already legal– arrested on their way to and from mandated immigration hearings. Trump’s too unpredictable. He could wake up any day on the wrong side of the bed, and they’d be back on a deportation plane.
But you never know. They just might come back. After all, it was a catchy tune: “I will vote . . . for Donald Trump.”
My grandfather was fond of saying: ‘Stupid is as stupid does.’ So, I guess we’ll see.
But this is what you get when you get rid of DEI and try running the richest nation on earth with a bunch of incompetent, unqualified, whining underachievers. Just my opinion.
As we navigate through this strange new world of immigration policies, one thing is clear – the system is broken. Asking deported migrants to return is not only illogical but also extremely arrogant. It’s time for a smarter, more humane approach to immigration that respects the dignity and rights of all individuals who contribute to the nation’s health and welfare.
