On June 27, Akron Ohio Police shot and killed Jayland Walker, 22, after a traffic stop and a foot chase. At the time of this writing, it is unknown whether Walker was armed.
It is unknown why Walker was initially stopped by police. His family’s attorney told the media Walker was hit over 60 times. Summit County Medical Examiner Dr. Lisa Kohler has ruled Walker’s death a homicide and a full autopsy is expected to be released in the coming days.
Cleveland’s WKYC was given permission to view autopsy photos of Walker’s body. The local TV station reported that Walker’s body was “riddled” with bullets. Protestors blocked traffic in Akron near the police headquarters on June 30.
Akron canceled their annual Rib, White and Blue festival for the July 4 weekend in response to the deadly shooting of Walker. On June 30, Tymeca Cohen, Jayland Walker’s sister was seen holding a sign demanding justice for her brother outside the Akron Police Department’s headquarters.
On social media, Bishop Talbert Swan recounted the times when unarmed Black men have been killed by police over the years. “Unarmed: Amadou Diallo 23, 41 bullets; Sean Bell 23, 50 bullets; LaQuan McDonald 17, 16 bullets; Jayland Walker 25, 90 bullets. Armed: Dylan Roof 21, killed 9, 0 bullets, James Holmes 24, killed 12, 0 bullets; Robert Long 21, killed 8, 0 bullets; Payton Gendron 18, killed 10, 0 bullets,” Swan wrote.
“Four armed white men + 39 murdered people = 0 bullets fired by police and 4 LIVING white murderers,” Swan continued.
“Police managed to arrest a young white man armed with an AR15 and dripping with the blood of Black people he just murdered at a #Buffalo supermarket, yet pumped 90 bullets into a young Black man over a traffic violation in #Akron,” Swan concluded.
More protests are expected in Akron over the weekend.

I read where the writer said that “at the time of this writing” she didn’t know why police stopped the guy. What’s fake about that? And what’s false about the story. I’ve read a bunch of different news accounts and this seems accurate. And here’s what Akron Police Chief Stephen Mylett said at a news conference July 3: “While a gun was found in his car after the shooting, Walker was not armed when he was killed.”
So Jay, it seems YOU need to get YOUR facts straight.
People who are quick to apologize for police shootings of unarmed suspects is bewildering. Some people are just tired of hearing the “I was in fear for my life” or the “I thought he was reaching for a gun” excuses for killing. For all you know he could have been reaching to open up his shirt to show he wasn’t armed. I agree with the commenter who said that police can always find a way to disarm white suspects, but don’t seem to know how to do anything but kill black ones.

Stop spreading false information. The reason for the traffic stop was a busted tail light. The same reason New Franklin police attempted to pull him over the night before and lead them on a police chase too. That chase was called off because Mr. Walker went into a different jurisdiction, but he did not fire any shots at the New Franklin police as he did with the Akron police. Traffic cam video shows Mr. Walker taking 2 shots at police as he got on and on the ramp. Police also found shell casings on the on the route 8 south on ramp. After being chased Mr. Walker jumped out of his moving vehicle wearing a ski mask. Body camera footage shows Mr. Walker running from police then turning as he moves his hand near his waste band. That is when police shot Mr. Walker. If Mr. Walker would not have shot at police he would probably lived another day to have a other police chase. Akron police will terminate a chase if the feel it is unsafe. Because Mr. Walker fired at police officers that did not become an option. They have released all this information in the last 2 weeks, do you homework.
