WGN in Chicago reports another disappearance on the West Side of the city. Victoria Garrett, 15, was last seen Monday in the 4000 block of West Grenshaw Street. She is African-American, 5’4″, 160 pounds, with brown eyes and black hair. She is the 4th woman to go missing on Chicago’s West Side since March 16 of this year.
The community is on high alert, despite the fact that the police do not consider the cases necessarily connected. However, on March 16, 18-year-old Anna Stanislawczyk disappeared and has not been seen since.
On April 25, 15-year-old Sadaria Davis went missing from her East Garfield Park neighborhood. Her body was found 2 weeks and 2 days later, on May 11, in a vacant apartment only six blocks away.
Two weeks later, on May 25, Shantieya Smith, 26, disappeared and has not been seen since. Now Victoria Garrett, who disappeared on June 5 has been added to that list.
Police are cautious about connecting the cases together. Stanislawczyk is white; the others are Black. Residents, though, like local community advocate Rev. Robin Hood, believe it is clear that a serial killer is at work.
“We know . . . that people who are runaways or missing . . . sometimes show up. But . . . these last four young ladies didn’t show up, and one of them is dead.
“It’s terrifying,” he told WGN. “It really doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out something is going on.”
