Ten years ago, during the 2012-2013 school year, Evans High School became the first school in the stage of Florida to implement the innovative Community Partnership Schools™ model, established in 2010 as a unique partnership among Children’s Home Society of Florida, Orange Blossom Family Health, Orange County Public Schools and the University of Central Florida.
This school/community partnership focuses on removing barriers to learning and empowering students to make their dreams a reality– and those are not just words. In the 10 years hence, EHS has increased graduation rates, reduced disciplinary actions, improved attendance, and increased parental involvement school-wide.
The University of Central Florida Center for Community Schools serves as the statewide grant administrator of the Community School Grant Program. It provides technical assistance to community schools; and oversees a rigorous, strengths-based certification process for schools to become UCF-Certified Community Partnership Schools.
Core partners focus on removing tough barriers to learning by bringing together high-quality academics, health and wellness programs, counseling, support, leadership opportunities and more— right on-site at the school. Studentw are empowered to pursue success– inside the classroom and beyond.
The school, located at 4949 Silver Star Rd, Orlando, FL 32808, will celebrate, with the help of its core and community partners, 10 years of serving local families.
Taking place on January 12, 2023, the event will feature student speakers and remarks by Orange County Mayor Jerry L. Demings, University of Central Florida President John C. Hitt, District 6 Commissioner and President & CEO Orange Blossom Health, Bakari Burns, OCPS Superintendent Dr. Maria F. Vazquez and Children’s Home Society of Florida President & CEO Andry Sweet.
From 4:30 PM – 5:00 PM, guests will check-in & spend time, mixing and networking. The program will begin at 5:00 PM and the 90 minute proram will feature informative guest speakers and student performances.
