Florida agricultural landowners and conservation partners have an October 30 deadline to seek consideration in the next federal agricultural conservation easement funding round. The Natural Resources Conservation Service announced the fiscal 2027 opportunity in August; the deadline remains ahead for applicants preparing materials now.

The program offers distinct routes. Agricultural Land Easements require interested owners to work through an eligible partner, such as a land trust, municipality or state agency. For Wetland Reserve Easements, owners may apply directly to NRCS to restore wetlands affected by agriculture. These are conservation agreements affecting land use, not unrestricted grants for household expenses. Agricultural easements protect land against incompatible nonagricultural uses. Applicants should begin by identifying which component fits their property and what commitments would follow, rather than assuming that every acreage or proposed project qualifies.
There is a regional example of what such a partnership can accomplish. In May 2023, NRCS announced that Conservation Florida and the Lightsey family had protected 527 acres at XL Ranch Lightsey Cove near Lake Istokpoga. That completed project is background, not a new award or a guarantee for this year’s applicants.
