Commissioner Regina Hill has been an ardent supporter of the City of Orlando’s annual Back-To-School Celebration and Food Distribution Event. This year is no different.

She wants to make this year’s event even bigger and better than before.

“Now more than ever, with the rising cost of living quickly outpacing people’s income, we must make this year’s Back-To-School Event bigger and better than ever to reach out to to as many families as possible,” Commissioner Hill said in written note to this newspaper.  “This event has been a staple in our community for many years and has helped countless families and students in the City of Orlando get the essential school material, clothes, and nutrition that will ensure their continued academic success.”

Each of us can help by making sure as many people know about the event as possible. Mark the date– July 30, 2022, from 10M to 1PM at Lake Lorna Doone Park, located at 1519 West Church Street– and spread the word!

The event is a collaboration by Commissioner Hill with some great local partnering organizations: Orlando Magic, Orlando City Soccer, Jack and Jill Inc., and Humana. Second Harvest Food Bank will be distributing food. There will be free food and entertainment, health and wellness information, as well as job opportunities for people looking for work.

Parents, bring your children! Young people, bring your parents (or legal guardians)! Just get there.

If you need help traveling, the Commissioner’s got you covered! Transportation to the event will be provided, free of charge, at Callahan, Jackson, Ivey Lane, Northwest and Rock Lake. Be at the location closest to you before 9AMFor more information call Jacqueline Cockerham at 407.246.3014 or email her at jacqueline.cockerham@orlando.gov.
