LEESBURG, Fla.– Ninety-two-year-old Rubye Harrison James was reported missing on Wednesday of this week by a neighbor who said she hadn’t been seen at her home on Edgewood Road since Monday. Carlean Crawford told reporters from Channel 9 that she was accustomed to hearing from James every morning and grew concerned when she did not get a call.
“[T]his was the first morning that she didn’t call,” Crawford said.
Deputies then went by James’ home to check on her, and found that both James and her car were missing. A search was begun immediately and James’ Hyundai Veloster was found a little later about five miles away from her home. What appeared to be a possible shallow grave containing human remains was found nearby. Police do not know if the remains are those of James or not.
Signs of foul play were described by Crawford. Police, however, have released no further details.
Anyone with information about James’ whereabouts is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 352-343-2101.
