Carrie Johnson

Carrie Johnson, 81, passed away on April 16, 2015. Born and raised in Blakely, GA, she moved to Orlando in 1955 with her late husband, L.B. Johnson, Sr. Mrs. Johnson dedicated her life to serving her family, extended family and many others. Carrie was employed for over 50 years with Earl and Sally Downs and was critical in raising two generations of the Downs family including Barry and Savannah Rigby, who affectionately called her “Nana.”

Further sharing her loving and caring spirit, she worked as a foster grandparent at Eccleston Elementary School for over ten years. Carrie joined New Bethel A.M.E. Church of Orlando in the early ’60’s. She loved going to church and served faithfully in the ministry. She was a member of the Missionary Society and Singles Ministry. In addition, she served on numerous committees over the years, was crowned “Ms. Pink Tea,” and fed many in the church.

Carrie Johnson is survived by her children: Joyce Nixon of Orlando, FL, Carolyn (Kevin) North of Atlanta, GA, Margaret Blunt, Wanda Fay Johnson-Carter (Granville), L.B. Johnson, Jr. (all of Orlando, FL) and Patricia Johnson of Pembroke Pines, FL.

Final services as a celebration of life: Saturday, April 25, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Olive A.M.E. Church, 2525 W. Church Street, Orlando, FL 32805. Mitchell’s Funeral Home at 501 Fairvilla Road, Orlando, FL 32808 is in charge of services.
