Local Neighborhoods Encouraged to Participate in Free Program
Orange County – Orange County recently launched the Mayor’s Neighborhood Challenge. This friendly, free competition gives neighborhood and community organizations suggested activities that can help their neighborhood thrive by becoming more healthy, green and involved.
“By challenging neighborhood organizations to become more involved in their community, committed to their health and invested in green practices, we can ensure a bright future for Orange County,” Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs said.
Participants in the Challenge fill out scorecards in various categories and are provided with a toolkit to help them through the process. Neighborhoods that complete the Challenge will be recognized based on their level of achievement, and the winners will be honored during the Orange County Community Conference on July 18and receive great prizes. The Challenge is set to end on June 12 and applications are now being accepted.
Launching a sustainability challenge campaign was one of the civic engagement strategies included in Orange County’s “Our Home for Life” Sustainability Plan. The Plan, which was prepared by a Sustainability Committee appointed by the Mayor, outlines incremental and transformative changes for the County through the year 2040 to improve the quality of life for current and future Orange County residents and visitors.
