In October 2023, we conducted a very simple, unofficial poll of our readership, asking the question: Should Donald Trump be allowed to run for the presidency in 2024?

The purpose of the poll was give our readers an opportunity to weigh in on this controversial topic.

A majority, or 61.4 percent said no. 38.6 percent said yes. There were no “undecided” or “no opinion” votes cast.

Of the total votes cast, 44.3 percent voted no” because Trump had “been charged with too many crimes, including inciting an insurrection against the nation.”

30 percent felt Trump should be allowed to vote because he, like every American charged with a crime, is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

17.1 percent said Trump should not be allowed to run because “even though presumed innocent, persons in his position are expected to avoid the appearance of impropriety.”

    • The remaining 9 percent said Tump should be allowed to run because “the whole prosecution of Trump is an unjustified witch hunt.”
