ORLANDO, FL. – International traffic jumped a staggering 32 percent in September at Orlando International Airport (MCO). That combined with a more than 9 percent increase in domestic traffic pushed passenger volume up to over 37.8 million on a rolling 12-month basis at MCO.
“Part of the dramatic increase in international numbers can be directly attributed to the arrival of Emirates and its first month of daily non-stop operations between Dubai and Orlando International,” says Frank Kruppenbacher, Chairman of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority. “This single flight brought in approximately $8.3 million in economic benefit to the community for the month, which further illustrates why we are committed to bringing in more international service to help expand the region’s economy.”
“As September closes our fiscal year the passenger numbers indicate we are expecting this calendar year to be a record one at Orlando International Airport,” says Phil Brown, Executive Director of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority. “If our numbers stay on track we should break records in both domestic and international traffic for 2015.”
September Statistical Data:
- International traffic increased 31.99 percent with a total of 386,835 passengers for the month
- Domestic traffic climbed 9.21 percent with 2,300,227 passengers in September
- Combined overall passenger traffic was up 11.99 percent with 2,687,062 passengers for September
- On a rolling 12-month basis overall traffic is up 7.29 percent with a record 37,809,224 passengers at Orlando International
- Total operations at Orlando Executive Airport also climbed in September up 12.28 percent
Orlando is now the 9th busiest port of entry into the United States according to the U.S. Department of Commerce. This designation comes after Orlando experienced a 20 percent increase in international arrivals, without adding Canadian and Mexican visitors, from 2014 to 2015. Orlando is now a busier international port of entry than Atlanta, Houston, Washington D.C., Dallas, and Seattle.
