Leah Tysee, of KFBK’s 31 Survivors in 31 Days breast cancer series, joined in the protest of police violence currently rocking the nation.   Just before the first basketball game to ever be played at the new Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, California yesterday, Tysee took a knee while singing “O’er the land of the free, and the home of the brave.”  Tysee said it was the “most patriotic thing I could do.”

“I cannot idly stand by as black people are unlawfully profiled, harassed and killed by our law enforcement over and over and without a drop of accountability,” she wrote. “The sad reality is, as a white American, I am bestowed a certain privilege in this nation that is not enjoyed by all people. Black families are having much different conversations with their children about how to interact with the police than white families.”

When asked about Tysee’s actions, Kings management said they knew nothing about her plans to kneel, but respected her right to “exercise her freedom of speech.”
