ORLANDO, Florida (December 22, 2014) – On Friday, December 12, 2014, the Commission on Ethics met in executive session and considered the complaint filed by Beverly D. Burgess against Commissioner Regina I. Hill (District 5). The members voted to dismiss the complaint as legally insufficient.
The complaint alleged that Hill stopped by Burgess’ home and attempted to intimidate Burgess into voting for her. Burgess claimed that Hil spat in her face and threatened to obtain Burgess’ absentee ballot and cast it in her favor. The complaint also alleged that Hill owns a construction company which could be viewed as a conflict of interest in bids, contracts and other City venues, and that Hill is not a resident of the City of Orlando.
The Commission determined that as a matter of law the allegations were not sufficient for it to act.
Hill was pleased with the decision, saying:
“I am happy to announce that I have been exonerated of all allegations and the charges have been dismissed by the Commission. Hopefully, today’s verdict will bring an end to Beverly Burgess’ attempt to publically smear my name and reputation with unfounded allegations.”
With the decision, Hill says she can return to focusing her attention and energy on the important issues facing her district and the City of Orlando.
