The Juneteenth Festival Committee Inc. will host the Sixteen Annual Juneteenth Celebration during the week of June 18, 2016. This historical celebration commemorates the end of slavery in 1865. It was two long years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation that the slaves living in Galveston, Texas, finally received the announcement that slavery had ended.
Last year the Juneteenth Community Events were a tremendous success. We had outstanding support from our Volusia County community and the participation was incredibly diverse. Attendees came from all over the county. The vendors and participants are looking forward to an exciting Juneteenth Banquet to be held on Thursday, June 16th, 2016 and the Juneteenth Family Festival this year on Saturday, June 18th, 2016.
This is an outdoor festival that will culminate a week of special Juneteenth activities. The festival will be held at the Cypress Park located at 925 George Engram Boulevard (corner of Nova Road and George Engram Boulevard), in Daytona Beach. A day of music, live entertainment, food, educational displays, recreational activities, fashion shows, and FREE inflatables for the kids are planned. We anticipate approximately 6,000 people from within and around the community to participate in the festival.
The Juneteenth Festival Committee Inc. greatly appreciate your support and participation at this historic event. For additional information please call 386-569-3347.
