The City of Orlando Celebrates Black History Month

    Black History Month Celebration Feb. 1 - 28, yearly

    Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer, District 5 City Commissioner Regina I. Hill, District 6 City Commissioner Samuel B. Ings and Onyx Magazine invite the Central Florida community to the City’s annual Black History Month reception to recognize the contributions and positive influence of African Americans in Orlando. 

    This year the event will honor several organizations and individuals who have made an impact in Orlando including Dr. Alzo Reddick, former Florida State Representative and founder of Soldiers to Scholars, Inc.; Mr. and Mrs. Clarence and Mildred Wilkerson, retired educators and civic leaders; the Jones High School Historical Society; Standing Ovation Talent Group of Orlando; Everett Spruill, local artist and educator; Jones High School students Lauredan Official and Daschicka Streeter and eight-year-old violinist Leah Flynn.

    The month of February is known nationally as Black History Month and is dedicated to honoring the achievements of African Americans and their lasting impact on our nation’s history.
