Former Rep. Corrine Brown Released From Sumter Prison to Home Confinement
SUMTER COUNTY, Fla. — Former U.S. Rep. Corrine Brown was released from a Sumter County federal prison to home confinement today, after serving almost half of a 5 year sentence for taking money from a charity and lying on her taxes and Congressional financial disclosure forms.
Brown was sentenced in January 2018 to five years in prison and had been serving time at the Coleman federal correction complex. She was scheduled for release on May 2, 2022.
Federal guidelines require prisoners to serve 50% of their sentence to be considered for home confinement, but Brown was released early, causing the family members of other inmates who have served more than half of their sentences to question when their requests for early release to home confinement will be heard.
Brown’s attorneys had filed a request for early release on humanitarian grounds, but withdrew it just before she was released.
