WASHINGTON, DC—The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will implement sound environmental policies, announced today its endorsement of Frederica Wilson for Congress (FL-24). Congresswoman Wilson is a strong environmental ally who is committed to investing in clean energy and combating climate change.“South Florida is at the forefront of climate change impacts with rising sea levels, and Congresswoman Wilson has called for action to combat this critical challenge,” said LCV Action Fund President Gene Karpinski. “Congresswoman Wilson is a staunch advocate for South Florida’s treasured coasts and an environmental leader.”
“I am honored to have earned the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund’s confidence in my commitment to be a strong advocate for the environment,” said Congresswoman Wilson. “As a native Floridian, I have spent my life surrounded by the enduring beauty and bounty with which nature has blessed our state, but the environmental challenges that Florida, and indeed the nation, face, must not be ignored. As a member of Congress I pledge to promote efforts to address both natural and man-made changes occurring in the climate and initiatives like solar and wind that will protect the environment and create jobs.”
As a Representative from South Florida, Wilson is committed to tackling climate change head on by building a clean energy future and cutting carbon emissions, including voting to support the Clean Power Plan. Wilson also works hard to safeguard Florida’s water and wildlife by opposing offshore drilling and advocating for the protection of the Everglades.
Wilson has earned an 88% lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard. The non-partisan Scorecard is a nationally accepted yardstick used to rate members of Congress on environmental and clean energy issues. Based on key environmental votes in the House and Senate, it is often used by the media to quickly describe a Member’s record. For more information, visit http://scorecard.lcv.org/.
