Orange County Leaders to Reveal 1995 Time Capsule at an Opening Ceremony February 2, 2021

Orange County Mayor Jerry L. Demings will join area elected officials past and present to open a time capsule that was buried at the construction site of the Orange County Courthouse as it finished construction in 1995.

The ceremony will be held on February 2, 2021 at 10:00 a.m.

Speakers will include officials who participated in the placement of the capsule in 1995. The capsule contents will be on display during the ceremony and Pamela Schwartz with the Orange County Regional History Center will provide details about the items contained in the capsule.

Some of the items include photographs by local residents and civic leaders documenting a “Day in the Life” of Orange County, predictions for the year 2020 and items that marked the state of the county in 1995 and a look to the future. 

Orange County Mayor Jerry L. Demings; The Honorable Linda Chapin, former Chairman/Mayor of Orange County; and Pamela Schwartz, Chief Curator, Orange County Regional History Center will be on hand at the event, as will Special Guest Joanne Nydegger, a local resident who placed 2nd in the “Realistic” category of the 1995 Orlando Sentinel prediction contest for the year 2020.

This ceremony is closed to the public.
