Your customised Twitter background just died.

Say goodbye to sunlit landscapes, tiled pictures of Harry Styles and pugs in watering cans; from now on when you visit someone’s Twitter profile all you’ll get is white.

This blank canvas is meant to show off tweets themselves, rather than users’ profiles.

The company also hopes it’ll make Twitter easier to use.

A spokesperson told Mashable: “We’re removing background images from the home and notifications timelines on web for all users.

“Now, background images are only available where logged-in users will see them publicly (Tweet pages, list pages and collections pages).

“You can find help centre content about customizing your design and where it’s visible on Twitter here.”

Perhaps inevitably, some users aren’t happy. We have collated some of the “nicest” responses for you to read.‏
