All the major forecasting aggregators had Hillary Clinton walking away with the win.  Even Trump was skeptical to an extent, saying that if he did not win Florida he had no real pathway to victory.  He surprised nearly everyone with a stunning defeat of Clinton by a vote of 279 electoral votes to 228.  The Dow Jones reacted poorly to the news, immediately dropping 750 points.

Trump’s often ational trade and promises to renegotiate of the North American Free Trade Agreement resonated with working and blue-collar whites, as did his promise to impose a moratorium on expanding regulations, and to deport millions of immigrants who are living illegally in the US.

During his campaign, Trump suggested he would support a return to enhanced-interrogation techniques, reevaluating the US relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin, making it easier to purchase firearms, and forcing Mexico to pay for the infamous border wall

Trump, one of the most divisive characters in recent history immediately issued a call for unity.  He comes to the presidency with a majority in both the House and the Senate.   and  will inherit a Congress that has remained plagued by gridlock throughout President Barack Obama’s tenure. But he will come into office with Republicans controlling both the House of Representatives and the Senate.
